P-square
Its a name to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry both in and outside Nigeria. Their music and dancing has captured the heart of many all over the world as they have performed in different part of the world, they have won various awards, they are young, they are fresh and they are P……….SQUARE! The story of PSquare began in St. Murumba College, a Catholic school in Jos, Nigeria. Identical twins Peter and Paul joined their school music and drama club where they began singing, dancing, and miming songs of different artist.They later formed the group called "Smooth Criminals" in 1997. Their artistic talent and precise dance routine soon made them household name in the city of Jos, where they performed at school functions and other occasions. The twins later returned to music school to develop their skills on keyboard, drums, bass and rhythm guitar. In 1999, Academic pursuits led the twins to the University of Abuja , where they were admitted to read Business Administration. The Smooth Criminals disbanded when its members were dispersed to northern universities in Nigeria. Subsequently Peter and Paul formed their own group, variously called "Double P", "P&P", and "Da Pees", until they eventually settled on "P Square".
In 2001, P Square won the "Grab Da Mic" competition, and hence Benson & Hedges sponsored their debut album, titled "Last Nite", which was released under Timbuk2 Music Label. They were managed by Bayo Odusami aka Howie T, a seasoned concert promoter and the CEO of Adrot Nigeria Limited. P Square was nominated as "Most Promising African Group" in the Kora Awards three months after the release of their debut album. They eventually won the 2003 Amen Award for Best R&B Group.
In 2005, P-Square INDEPENDENTLY released its second album titled GET SQUARED and the first collection of their videos in Nigeria. The album was a rave in Nigeria and other parts of Africa, thereby enabling it to hit number one on many chat listings, the track “Bizzy Body 2” featuring Weird MC in 2006 was a hit track in Nigeria and all over Africa. November 2007 saw the artiste releasing its third album titled "GAME OVER" which is currently making waves in Nigeria and all of Europe. P-Square has delivered smashing live performances alongside artistes like Usher, Wayne Wonder, Sean Paul, Wyclef Jean, Akon etc. Their lyric can be said to be Afrocentric, it combines western and African rhythms in creating a marvelous blend of R&B, Hip Hop and Dancehall songs which appeals to both young and old, they can be said to be successful in Nigeria and relatively popular in other African countries.
Peter with the assistance of their brother, choreographs all the dance sequences in the group's routines. He also plays the acoustic & bass guitars and drums while Paul who had always had a keen interest in writing, creating and singing original songs write their songs and also plays the keyboard and does the production and sequencing of their songs till date.
